Winnie Givot

A painting retreat. Watercolor journaling at Salinara.

September 1 – 14, 2021

Join Winnie Givot for her 4th workshop to the west coast of Sicily, a unique place that has been shaped by many cultures over many thousands of years. Our days will be filled with painting, drawing and writing in our watercolor journals as we explore this beautiful place, seeing more deeply through our art. Whether you are an experienced painter or a beginner, this will be a delightful and inspirational experience.

Our host, Adriano, restored Salinara, a simple villa of grace and beauty in the country near Marsala. The Villa, where we will be the only guests, will be a safe haven in these unusual times.
Villa Salinara is a 10 minute walk from the Mediterranean. Close by are windmills, fishing boats and Phoenician ruins. Possible day trips include a Greek temple, a natural hot springs, the hilltown of Selemi, Cave di Cusa, and marble beaches where we can swim in the calm, blue-green water when the scirocco blows from the south. Most afternoons will be free for rest, relaxation, painting, exploration and swimming.

Adriano, with the help of his wife, Yumi, has facilitated Winnie’s workshops in Sicily, Greece and Ecuador. He has a deep appreciation for beauty, history, culture and people which he shares with us bringing greater depth to our experience.
Winnie will give daily lessons and individual help. This is an opportunity for art immersion as we play with texture and color, with writing and page embellishments, while connecting with the beauty around us.
There will be lightheartedness and musings in our journals and our days. In the evenings we will eat meals specially prepared for us at Villa Salinara or at restaurants nearby. Ah, the food and wine of Sicily!

The prerequisite for coming on this painting retreat is a willingness to create a watercolor journal. Whether you are a skilled painter or a beginner, this will be a delightful and inspirational experience.
