Winnie Givot

Watercolor Journaling in Lisbon (Sintra & Obidos).

May 11 - 24, 2022

Join Winnie Givot in Lisbon, a city of beauty, from which explorers in the 15th and 16th centuries set out to discover the world. There we will spend our days painting, drawing, and writing in our watercolor journals as we see more deeply through our art. We will be staying in newly renovated apartments in an old Portuguese building near Praça Intendente, a wonderful location in the historic city.
In and around the city we will take many different forms of transport including metro, trolleys, tuk tuks, escalators, train, bus and, of course, walking. There is even an elegant 19th century outdoor elevator which carries passengers up and down between districts.

Lisbon, built on 7 hills, is delightful. The architecture is charming, and tiles typically cover walls, most creating wonderful patterns and others creating remarkable paintings. Painting places include the Castle of St. George, Viewpoint de Santa Luzia, Torre Belem, Praça Comerçao, Mercado Ribeira and the world class Museum Calouste Gulbenkian. The Cathedral of Lisbon and Monastery of Jeronimos are other amazing places. From Lisbon we will take day trips to elegant Sintra and sweet Obidos.

In the mornings Winnie, will teach, demonstrating and giving individual help. Most afternoons will be free for rest, relaxation, exploration and painting. In the evenings we will eat meals specially prepared for us at nearby restaurants.

This is an opportunity for art immersion. One delightful aspect about a journal is the ease of carrying it with our supplies in one not-very-big bag so that we can easily draw and paint anywhere, playing with color and writing, page embellishments and composition, while connecting with the beauty before us. There will be lightheartedness and musings in our journals and our days.

The prerequisite for coming on this painting retreat is a willingness to create a watercolor journal. Whether you are a skilled painter or a beginner, this will be a delightful and inspirational experience.
