The Origin of the Name “Salinara”
Brand story, philosophy and design.
The name Salinara carries within it the memory of the sea, the wind, and the ancient art of salt harvesting.
In the 18th century, a flat wooden boat known as a salinara was used to transport precious sea salt from the island of Mozia to the shores of Marsala, in the Contrada Spagnola area.
At the bow of the boat stood a wooden sculpture — a polena carved in the shape of a mermaid.
She was more than a decoration: she was a guardian, a symbol of protection and good fortune for the sailors who braved the waves and the wind each day.
This legend inspired the symbol that today represents Salinara — an elegant S shaped like a mermaid, echoing the figure once carved on the bows of the salt workers’ boats.
It is a tribute to those who lived in harmony with the sea and the land, to their craft, and to the timeless bond between nature, tradition, and beauty.
At Salinara, this spirit endures.
Every element — from the architecture to the wine and olive oil we produce — is guided by the same values: authenticity, balance, and respect for the land.
Our philosophy is simple: to celebrate the art of slow living, where design, nature, and human connection flow together like tides.
