“The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility.
To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope.”

Wendell Berry

An example of artistic and ethical recovery in Sicily on the edge of a nature reserve.

At Villa Salinara we try as hard as we can to provide responsible low-impact tourism.
We believe that by restoring a historic house to its former glory we are helping to regenerate the coast of Sicily and protect the land from the horrible new building constructions.
During the renovation of the villa we have tried as much as possible to use natural, local products.
All our marble is Sicilian, the colors used to paint the wall is made by Sicilian grounds and natural lime.

We have used only local artisans and never bought anything from large retail chains. Old doors, old windows, old floors, beds, wardrobes, have all been recycled from the past and restored.
The wonderfully thick walls of the villa are excellent insulators, providing cool in the summer and warmth in the winter.

At Salinara we are not big on chemicals and try to use natural cleaning products as much as we can.
Recycling of rubbish in Sicily has not so developed, but wherever we can we recycle.
We encourage our guests to separate their waste and deposit it in appropriate containers.
We also encourage our guests to be conscious of resources, especially water, which is part of our room information pack.
